WordPress and Https

Click on the padlock in the address bar; it will say the connection is secure. There are different ways to get a security certificate on your site.

The first way is through your hosting service. Whichever hosting provider you use for your websites such as Siteground, GoDaddy, Bluehost, or TMDHosting (the hosting I’m currently using).

The best way to get it is directly through the hosting platform. Certain hosting sites give it to you for free.

Some don’t.

WordPress SSL Configuration

  • Save

Head over to your hosting platform and click on Log in. Once you log into your hosting platform, you will be in the cPanel.

  • Save

The cPanel is like the back end of the majority of websites. Go to “Security” it’s probably going to look the similar for you even though your hosting site may be different.

  • Save

Go to Let’s Encrypt™ SSL and click on it. If you have a website next to it under the Actions tab, click on “Issue.”

Make sure to check “https-01“.

  • Save

Issue it, and it’s going to install it directly to your website. Usually, it’s pretty straightforward.

WordPress Https Not Working

If it doesn’t install it directly to your website, you probably have to open up a support ticket. One of the reasons it might not install on your website is that the domains have the wrong Name Servers.

Click on Domains.

  • Save

You can contact your hosting service provider. Contact them to make sure you have the correct name servers for your domain.

How to Make WordPress Use Https

  • Save

Another way to install an Https SSL Certificate is through your WordPress Dashboard. If your site is showing unlocked and unsecured, head over to your WordPress dashboard.

Scroll over to Plugins. Click on Add New.

  • Save

Once you click on Add New type in: “really simple,” it will bring up a plugin called “Really Simple SSL.” Install it and click on Activate.

Once you’ve installed it, click on Settings. It will say enable “301 redirects to HTTPS set” click on it and complete the installation.

How does SSL work?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.
In layman terms, the sender encrypts the message with a specific key and the receiver decrypts that message using an identical key.

What is SSL?

In simple terms, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is one of the security technology which is used to establish a secure connection between the web server and web browser. This secured link is in an encrypted format, so it assures users that data that is passed between these links means the web server and browser are private and original. SSL is an Industry standard protocol which is used by several websites for protecting their online transactions with their customers

What is SSL and what are SSL certificates?

SSL i.e. Secure Sockets Layer is a standard protocol for establishing a secure connection between clients and servers over a network like the Internet. It works at the network transport layer.

SSL uses a certificate (SSL certificate) to create an encrypted connection. One would need to give all details about the identity of the website to activate SSL on their web server. These certificates are issued from Certification Authority which validates the details provided. This certificate binds a cryptographic key to the details of the organization.

What is an SSL certificate?

An SSL certificate (or TLS certificate) is a digital certificate that binds a cryptographic key to your organization’s details. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) are cryptographic protocols designed to encrypt communication between a server and a web browser.

While SSL certificates are installed server-side, there are visual cues in the browser that show SSL protection. If SSL is present you may see https:// in the address bar, a padlock, green address bar, or a combination of the three.
SSL secures your connection to a web server and encrypts any transferred data.
